Community Health Officers are the grass root medical practitioners who had graduated with Diploma in Medicine and rural health care from Medical Institute,Jorhat(MIJ). Medical Institute,Jorhat was established in 2005 by Govt of Assam introducing an act named Assam rural health regulatory Authority act 2004.The main aim of this act to creat some dedicated health officials who will minimize the shortage of Medical practioners.The first batch of this workforce was appointed in 2009 by NHM of Assam and till total 571 CHOs are posted in different Health centre of Assam.
According to official data CHO had already treated around 70 lakhs OPD patients and conducted around 70 thousand of normal delivery only in 8 years.
The CHOs are continuously servicing in national and natural calamities of Assam with great dedication and enthusiasm.
